Biography of John Cain

John CainLocal artist John Cain has been drawing for twenty years, establishing a soft hand and eye for detail. As a youngster growing up in small towns in Texas and Nebraska, he first started drawing because there wasn’t much else to do. It was later when John was a sailor that drawing and painting became a true love. Stuck in the unbearable cold and gray confines of a ship for months at a time, art helped maintain color in his life and grew into a passion. For six years, with permission from his superior officer, John began to change his surroundings by painting large and colorful murals on the Navy ship walls. He created masterpieces that brought life to the ships and spiced up living areas to brighten the day of crew mates when they rounded a corner and saw them. John’s assignment during his last year in the Navy was painting murals aboard the USS Essex. At the end of his cruise John was awarded the Navy achievement medal for the amazing paintings he did and the inspiration that came with them.

Painting murals for the Navy wasn’t the only thing John accomplished while out at sea. When he realized he wanted to seriously pursue his interest in art, he produced and submitted a portfolio to Savannah College of Art and Design. He was accepted and, after leaving the Navy, earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.

The next five years were spent focusing on product design. John was busy creating one of a kind concept sketches and renderings. In his spare time, he developed a new found passion for graphite drawings and portraits. These favorite pastimes gave him an opportunity to wind down and re-gain his focus from the stress of the day. Now John is always pushing his abilities with graphite and carbon past their boundaries to create wonderful works of art for many to cherish. All of his drawings and paintings are magnificently detailed, looking almost photo-like, but capturing emotion sometimes lost by a camera.

Sweet Gretta

John currently works in R&D at Creative Memories and has recently moved with his family to the St. Cloud area, but still remains close to his Lakeville ties.
