Fastframe of Lakeville in the Press

Lakeville Business Owner Wins International Honor

LAS VEGAS, NV -- April 19, 2012 -- The Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) has announced that Glenn Renick, owner of Fastframe Expert Picture Framing in Lakeville, MN, has been awarded second place in the 2012 International Print Framing Competition.

The International Framing Competition is an invitational event with finalists qualifying through a year-long system of regional and national contests. Final judging was held at the Mirage Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. PPFA framing competition requires all competitors to start with an identical piece of artwork. The selected image was “Fall Leaf/Blue Sky”, a limited-edition digital photograph by artist Linda Sutton. Contestants are then evaluated on their ability to create a unique design to best compliment and display the artwork, the implementation of preservation practices to protect the art as if it were priceless, and the quality of workmanship exhibited in the finished piece. The event is judged by Master Certified Picture Framers and recognized industry authorities from throughout the world.

Over the past 3 years Mr. Renick has become one of the most recognized professional picture framers in the upper-Midwest with 12 major awards in various categories. According to Mr. Renick, “True custom framing is a constantly evolving craft requiring ongoing skill development. Competing against the best designers and frame masters helps differentiate our business from the many mass framing shops.” His award winning designs and idea examples are currently on display at the Fastframe of Lakeville design center in Lakeville’s Argonne Village Center.

Fastframe of Lakeville takes 1st Place in NCPPFA Print Competition

LAKEVILLE, MN (October 18, 2010) Fastframe of Lakeville is proud to announce their blue ribbon award in the 2010-2011 North Central Professional Picture Framers Association print framing contest. The print chosen for this competition was Linda Sutton’s “Fall Color/Blue Sky”, which is a limited edition (350 prints), unaltered, single-take photographof a fall leaf floating in a pond with the blue sky reflected in black water around it.

Contestants were challenged to treat the artwork as priceless and frame it in the most complimentary way possible. The entry created by Glenn Renick, Fastframe of Lakeville owner, uses a totally archival museum mounting to protect the artwork. The frame was scratch-built using raw hickory for its prominent grain and colored with a merlot dye stain to accentuate the colors and fine details within the leaf. It is a modernized variation of classical 16th century Italian frame design. The unique mat is back coated acrylic which accents the reflection of the black water in the photograph. Copper accenting around the opening defines the artwork and reinforces the fall color theme. Judges recognized the piece for both “stunning design” and “impeccable workmanship”. This award-winning entry will now advance to the International competition held in September 2011. Published photos of the framed piece are prohibited until after the International Awards are presented.

Renick’s open division entry, a collection of antique tobacco trading cards, placed first with the highest overall score based on design, craftsmanship, and conservation technique. This entry also received awards for judges’ choice, popular choice, and high point first time entry. His print division entry, a multiple media original by artist Rod Morris, was awarded second place in the scored competition and was also selected as the popular choice winner.
